Types of Bookings

Glad Day is known for being so many different things for different people. We are an adaptable space : from poetry readings to dance parties - from political panels to drag diners!
Different events have different costs and revenue possibilties. Please
review the event types to figure out which one matches your event best.
Your event type determines your rental cost.

  • Private or Ticketed Event

A private event means that the public cannot enter the space to purchase books, drinks or food unless they have paid admission or are on a guest list.

The rental cost reflects the loss of sales revenue and the inconvenience to our customers.

Examples: Dance Party, Film Shoot, Corporate Event, Wedding

  • Semi-Private Event

A semi-private event is one that uses the main event space of Glad Day but still allows for customers to come in, browse the books on the west side of the space and purchase food and drink at the bar. Entry to the event could be free or ticketed.

A semi-private event assumes that the space is mostly used for the event and that the other patrons won’t disrupt the event.

Examples: Panels, Reading Series, Drag Show, Birthday Party, Cabaret

  • Public Event

A public event is something that is free for the public to attend. Customers can buy books and drink and make noise while your event is going on.

Examples: Board Games, Social Mixer, Crafting, Film Screening, Karaoke

RENTAL FEES

Your rental fee is determined by the type of event you are having, as described above.

All rentals must book for 3 hours minimum.
Bookings should include time for set-up and take down if the space cannot be used for another event at that time.

Deposits may be required if you have not booked at Glad Day before.

You can either pay a rental fee or agree to a bar sales minimum.

The bar sales minimum would be double the rental fee.

For example, if the rental cost is $100 an hour, the bar minimum to waive the rental fee would be $200 an hour.

If you fail to meet the bar minimum, you would pay 50% of the difference as a rental fee. For example, if your bar minimum was $400 and sales were $280, you would be short by $120 so you would need to pay $60 as a rental fee.

All food and drink would be included in the bar minimum.

Discounts and Subsidies

  • Book Launches

As a bookstore, Glad Day loves hosting book launches, with the expectation that book sales will generate some income for the space. If you want to host a book launch, we will figure out the revenue expectations on a case-by-case basis.

  • Discounts

Paying Artists - If your event will be paying artists directly for their participation in the event, we will discount your rental fee by 50% of the amount that you are paying artists, up to $500.

Artists include but are not limited to: DJs, drag performers, burlesque acts, musicians, authors and actors.

Paid Promotion - If you submit proof of paid ads, we will discount your rental fee by 50% of the amount that you paid, up to $100.

  • Subsidies

If you feel that your event aligns with the mandate of Glad Day Lit, you can apply to get a subsidy for your event. This subsidy could cover as much as 100% of the rental cost of your event. Glad Day Lit is more likely to subsidize an event that is free for the public to attend.
